BAD weather failed to dampen the spirits of competitors, judges and the stewards at the St Stephen-in-Brannel Horse Show. However, it did lead to the abandonment of the gymkhana due to the increasingly difficult conditions.
Show stalwart, Sue Rowe braved the elements to judge the showing classes and it was six-year-old Harry Dingle who shone through to lift the leading rein and ridden mountain and moorland accolade en route to the overall showing championship with his pony Lottie.
This lovely combination confirmed their consistency having earlier in the season clinched the overall ridden championship at the Roseland Show where Harry held off stiff competition led by his mother Linda Dingle.
"We were badly hit by the weather," said Mollie Richards of the organising committee. "It started to rain heavily just after the show started and our judges and competitors carried on in spite of the conditions.
"Everyone tried their best but in the end we made a decision to abandon the show for safety reasons."
