POLICE in Bodmin are searching for a man who attacked a 76-year-old pensioner in the town centre.

The victim was assaulted outside Bunts newsagents on Mount Folly at about 7.40am last Thursday and needed hospital treatment.

Police say it was an unprovoked attack and a man in his early thirties had started verbally abusing the pensioner before assaulting him.

The pensioner suffered bruising and a cut to his left eye and was taken to hospital for treatment, and to check his eye socket was not fractured.

Police say they have reviewed CCTV footage and are looking for a man described as white, of slim build who was wearing a grey, long-sleeved top, grey jeans and Adidas trainers with three white stripes to the sides.

He was holding a stainless steel travel mug and is believed to have driven off in a grey or silver vehicle.

Anyone with information is being asked to call the police on 101 quoting crime number BB/12/1768.
