STAFF at the Monkey Sanctuary in Looe say they're heartbroken following the death of Pepper, their 10-month-old capuchin monkey.
Pepper passed away on Thursday November 22, the same night the sanctuary was hit by severe flooding.
Wild Futures' director and head of the Sanctuary, Rachel Hevesi, said: "It is important that the Sanctuary finds out what Pepper died from in order to safeguard the other monkeys and to learn in case we can add to knowledge for all capuchin welfare."
Keepers say symptoms suggest Pepper may have had tetanus. Tests are now being carried out to try and ascertain the root cause of his death.
Pepper was one of eight capuchins that were brought to the Sanctuary in March 2012.
Keeper Macer Parton said: "He was a lovely little capuchin, very inquisitive.
"We all became quite fond of the little fellow and he will be sorely missed," he added.
The Sanctuary will be holding a remembrance event for Pepper on Sunday, December 9 on its Christmas open day.
Visitors and adopters are invited to join staff at the event.
