WHAT better way to celebrate Christmas than with the renowned Truro Cathedral Choir?
On Saturday at 7.30pm the boys and men of the choir will perform to what is traditionally a full house. This is the start of their busiest season which will culminate in performances to around 4,000 people on the three days running up to Christmas Day.
The cathedral's director of music, Christopher Gray, said: "The music on December 15 will include favourites such as O Holy Night, Ding Dong, Merrily on High, Once in Royal David's City and On Christmas Night, in atmospheric and sometimes virtuosic arrangements. There will also be some less well-known items such as Christmas Truce, a haunting carol composed for the choir last year by Graham Fitkin. It tells of 'the German and the Briton' laying down their weapons and deciding not to fight on Christmas Day in 1914. It ends with a powerful plea that every day be as Christmas Day.
"If you're not sure if this concert is for you, then look up Truro Cathedral Choristers singing A Christmas Blessing by Philip Stopford on YouTube. It is one of three carols we will sing by Stopford, whose music will be featured on the choir's forthcoming CD recorded recently for Regent Records."
