Cornwall Council's chief executive has confirmed he has been offered a job in New Zealand after his candidacy was widely leaked on the internet.
Kevin Lavery said he was now considering whether to take the up the post of chief executive of Wellington City Council.
However, in a statement issued yesterday he appeared to indicate his decision had been made by speaking of his regret at leaving the authority which he has steered for four years.
"I have enjoyed my time as the chief executive of Cornwall Council and will be sorry to leave the authority and Cornwall," he said.
"I now need to consider the terms of the offer very carefully and discuss this with my family before making a final decision."
Mr Lavery added that he was going to mull the decision over: "I will be spending the next few days considering this offer and hope to make an announcement early next week."
The news that Mr Lavery may be about to depart was widely leaked on the internet and social networking sites after the fact he had been offered the job was reported in the Wellington media.
