PARENTS and Mousehole residents enjoyed a slap-up stargazy pie supper at the village's primary school as part of a project involving pupils. Chef Sanjai Kumar cooked 80 individual fish pies with the help of children on Monday, December 17, marking the end of a project run by local artist group Tough Dough.
Artists Lizzie Black and Alessandra Ausenda had used the story of Tom Bawcock to teach the children about the different elements of the fishing industry, culminating in Monday's meal. The FEAST-sponsored group took the children on a tour of Newlyn Harbour organised by Seafood Cornwall and visited Stevenson's Fish Shop, where they were given fish needed for the famous pie.
Fish was also donated by Trelawney Fish, where the children witnessed the entire process from catching, marketing and preparing to cooking.
Fisherman Bill Johnson visited the school to talk about his trade and later pupils created fish head table displays for the feast.
Teacher Caroline Newborn, said: "As always with Lizzie and Alessandra we had an amazing night. I want to thank them so much for all the fun and excitement they brought to this project."
