A Shetland pony which had fallen down an adit, or mine entrance, in Mid Cornwall was successfully rescued by firefighters on Boxing Day. The alarm was raised at 2.15pm with four fire engines from St Austell and Bodmin being sent to the scene near St Blazey. Crews found the pony, which was not in distress, had fallen 15 feet down the collapsed adit. Firefighters used a combination of rescue poles, an extension ladder and lines to haul the animal free. The pony was lifted out of the adit by 4.30pm and reunited with its owner.
