2012 has been a huge year for news in Cornwall, with flames in a variety of guises, medallists, football managers and Caroline Quentin. Here we take a look back at the best read on www.ThisisCornwall.co.uk in 2012. The first of Cornwall's flames was the tragic fire which gutted Falmouth Beach Hotel on the last day of April. ThisisCornwall covered the truly dramatic scenes from the first whispers of smoke through the day as eventually the roof fell in and the main building was raised to the ground. The second of Cornwall's flames came courtesy of the Olympics. The torch, flanked by megastar David Beckham, touched down at Land's End first before making its journey through the Duchy, then onwards 'up-country' towards the capital. The nation's eyes were upon us and even the sun managed a rare appearance. 2012 was also the year of 'Cornwall with Caroline Quentin' - much to the distain of many Cornish. The first series was controversially very 'touristy'. One of the 125 comments on the forum post which came in as the fifth best-read said "Yet another TV programme showing a pretty, quaint and twee 'county', solely it seems for the benefit of the tourist industry. "Nobody recognisable by their voice as being Cornish, just the usual nondescript middle-England patter which can be heard anywhere." Here's the top ten best read on ThisisCornwall of 2012: 1) Fire at Falmouth Beach Hotel 2) Olympic Torch route through Cornwall announced 3) Live coverage from the Olympic torch relay through Cornwall 4) Cornishman David Haigh leads bid to take over Leeds United Football Club 5) Cornwall with Caroline Quentin forum post 6) Olympic Torch Relay: Live coverage from the torch arrival to Cornwall 7) Penzance post box turned gold in honour of Olympian Helen Glover 8) Ginsters owner's £100,000 to Tories days after pasty tax 9) GALLERY: Falmouth Beach Hotel fire 10) Bomb scare shuts down centre of Truro
