Cycling the rugged Westcountry coastline can be a test for even the most experienced rider.
But a Cornish company has unveiled a fleet of electric bikes to help less able cyclists explore Cornwall on two wheels.
Cornish Cycle Tours claims it is the first and only company in the county to offer the battery-powered cycles.
The company, which was launched six years ago by Cornishman Lanyon Rowe, said mixed ability groups or those looking to improve their fitness can now enjoy scenic routes of varying distance, length and difficulty.
He said: "We want to make Cornwall accessible by bike for everyone, no matter how fit or experienced a cyclist they are. These new electric bikes are perfect for those looking to set a more leisurely pace for their holiday, or for groups with varying fitness levels." The almost soundless Giant Escape Hybrid 2 bikes offer between 18 and 50 miles of power-assisted cycling, depending on gradients, wind resistance and whether set to eco, normal or sport mode.
Riders can also turn the electric assist off and pedal the bike conventionally.
The electric motor is powered by a 36V battery at the rear of the bicycle and is activated by pedalling.
The rechargeable batteries can be topped up at points along the tours or at a power source each evening.
Cornish Cycle Tours offer all-in holidays which include accommodation, luggage transfers, detailed route maps and step-by-step daily directions. MrLanyon said the bikes were "just another part of the service".
"Now our visitors can focus on enjoying their surroundings rather than worrying about tiring themselves out."
