TRIBUTES have been paid to a St Agnes councillor who died while recovering from major surgery at Treliske. Eddie Price, who was known for his colourful shirts and a familiar face through-out the village, passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning (JAN 6).
He leaves a widow, Jenny, a daughter and grandchild. Longstanding friend and colleague, Gerry Jones, described Eddie as a "stunning man" and one who will be greatly missed.
Mr Jones said of the retired film technician : "He was a very good friend, outstanding, who always did what was asked of him. He did a lot that was unaccounted for in the village, helping individuals and looking after them.
"He was a doer and was known for his colourful shirts. Visitors would often give him shirts that they'd seen on their travels, he had quite a few. I think his remembrance is likely to be a colourful affair."
Mr Price had been admitted to Royal Cornwall Hospital for a hip operation on December 27. Mr Jones said that while the operation had been a success, Eddie suffered complications and died of a heart attack.
"I visited him and he seemed in good spirits. He was keen to get home. It's so sad. He had been waiting for the operation for a long time." Both councillors concerned by traffic speeding through the village recently fought and won a two year campaign to introduce a 20mph speed limit in St Agnes.
St Agnes Parish Council chairman, Eugene Hope, said its thoughts were with Mr Price's wife and family, adding: "The council meeting (on Monday night) will start with a minute of silent reflection for a councillor who worked hard for the constituents in his ward and made a valuable contribution, often behind the scenes, to the community of St Agnes."
