AN 84-YEAR-OLD man whose car left the A30 near Penzance and crashed into a hedge is believed to have died of natural causes, police have said.

Desmond Barnes, of Marazion, died following the single vehicle collision on December 28.

He was driving a silver Mazda 323 at Newtown roundabout, Long Rock, in the direction of St Erth when the vehicle left the road and went into a hedge. Found unconscious at the scene, Mr Barnes was taken to Royal Cornwall Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch. They would particularly like to speak to a cyclist who stopped at the scene but left before police arrived.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Camborne Serious Collisions Unit on 101, quoting reference 510 of 28/12/12.
