A video released on Monday to raise funds for a young boy has now been viewed more than 170,000 times and brought in more than £10,000. The money is being sought for Joshua, who has had surgery to remove a brain tumour, and will be used to provide a ceiling track hoist and other adaptations to his home.

The video, featuring off-duty members of Devon and Cornwall Police, is based on the song Gangnam Style by Korean artist Psy and was filmed in and around Falmouth.

The project was the idea of Sergeant Gary Watts, who promised that he would dance Gangnam Style on YouTube if his Twitter followers increased by more than 1000 in one week. When the news went viral and his followers rocketed, he was obliged to follow through on his promise. He made the video with the help of his colleagues and Roseland Media.

At 5pm today Sergeant Watts posted on the Facebook account

"The total raised by the video has just smashed £10000!!! Thanks everyone"

Dawn Fidler, Joshua's mother, says that she has been "totally overwhelmed by everyone's kind generosity and support" in response to the appeal. In an e-mail from Dawn Fidler received by ThisIsCornwall today she says: "This week has just been unbelievable!!!"

You can watch the video on Youtube

You can find out more about Joshua and make a donation on the Joshua's Journey website.
