A man who had fallen out of his kayak off the Cornish coast has been rescued by a lifeboat crew.

The kayaker was unable to get back into his vessel and was in the water at Port Quin for some time.

Falmouth Coastguard were alerted to the danger at 10.50am today and the Rock lifeboat was diverted from an exercise to attend.

They were able to reach the man and take him ashore where an ambulance was waiting.

A spokesman for Falmouth Coastguard said: "He was in the cold water for long enough that he needed to be checked over by paramedics, but he was okay."

Earlier today the National Coas****ch Institution at Gwennap Head spotted a broken down vessel that needed assistance.

Falmouth Coastguard said the fishing boat had no working radio but was luckily noticed by the volunteers at 10.10am.

The all weather lifeboat from Penlee went to the vessel's aid and towed it ashore.
