The coastal path between Sennen and Land's End is to undergo a series of improvements in 2013 as part of a major investment in the South West Coast Path.

Work began this week on a stone pitching project to solve major erosion problems and improve access on the popular route between the two tourist destinations.

The £20,000 work has been supported and funded by the South West Coast Path team, National Trust, Cornwall Council and Land's End Company.

It will see 220 metres of the path pitched with granite and take approximately 10 weeks.

It will be followed by a further 600 metres of stone pitching to complete the path to Land's End in the next stage of the project.

The path will form part of the Great South West Walk in April and May to celebrate the association's 40th birthday.

The anniversary event will include 56 sponsored walks across the route which extends as far as Dorset.

Supporters include Jonathan Dimbleby, who will walk the stretch from Stoke Fleming to Torcross in South Devon.

Each leg will be guided. The registration deadline is on March 4. For more information visit www.GreatSouthWestWalk.co.uk or 01752 896237.
