Helston Athletic 2, Callington Town 1
Helston Athletic are through to the quarter-finals of the Cornwall Senior Cup after coming from behind to defeat Callington Town at Kellaway Parc on Saturday and earn a trip to either Liskeard or St Blazey in the last eight, writes Lee Hall.
A good sized crowd braved the elements and they were rewarded with a highly competitive and entertaining encounter, which saw Callington lead at the break through Ryan Lucassi, before second half goals from Hugh Howlett and Liam Eddy clinched Helston their place in the last eight.
It had started so well for Callington, Lee Beer's men taking a third minute lead through Lucassi's low drive into the bottom corner.
The goal handed the visitors the initiative in the first half and they deservedly led at the break.
But Helston improved vastly in the second half and they were level after 57 minutes when Howlett curled a brilliant effort into the top corner after Jamie Thomson's corner hit the angle of the goal before falling out to the defender.
And then it was left for Eddy to claim the winner in the 77th minute, the striker throwing himself at Kirk Davies' cross to send his diving header past Callington goalkeeper Jamie Blatchford.
