TWO ACADEMY schools in Newquay plan to join forces to provide youngsters with a "seamless journey" through their education between the ages of 7 and 19.
The governing bodies of Newquay Junior and Newquay Tretherras academies met on Thursday to discuss the formation of a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) - a single trust governing both schools.
Governors voted to move to a full consultation with all stakeholders and to draw up a strategic business plan.
A spokesman for the two academies said the MAT would create an "outstanding and inspirational all-through 7-19 academy serving the Newquay community" as the two schools had a "long-standing history of very close partnership with a shared ethos of caring 'family' relationships".
The spokesman said: "The vast majority of Newquay Junior pupils continue their education at Tretherras and a formal structure is now proposed to capitalise on these very powerful links so that education becomes a seamless and continuous journey from 7 to 19.
"It is the vision of the MAT to create an educational provision which is greater than the sum of its parts and focuses on the holistic nature of educating young people to become happy, healthy, fulfilled and well educated human beings, capable of enriching and improving their communities."
He said the move to become a MAT was timely as the National Funding Formula is set to push all schools to share resources.
"All schools are being encouraged to become part of trusts, partnerships or amalgamate," he said.
On Thursday, January 31, there will be an information session for staff of both schools at 3.30pm in the senior hall at Newquay Tretherras. A session for parents and governors of both schools will be held at 5pm. Consultation meetings will take place in February.
