BRITISH blues legend Wizz Jones – who influenced generations of blues guitarists including Eric Clapton and Keith Richards – has agreed to be patron of Cornwall Folk Festival in Wadebridge.

He has long had associations with Cornwall and is headlining the Saturday night at the event, which runs from August 23 to 26.

Wizz will be appearing with two other renowned guitarists – John Renbourn (Pentangle) and Clive Carroll (who, among others, has worked with Madonna).

Sunday will be a Brazilian day with samba bands out on the streets and, in the evening, singer Silvia Nicolatto will be joined by her Cornish musician friends to bring a Bossa Nova slant on Cornish folk tunes. Supporting her are Cornwall's own Dalla.

Kicking off the festival will be Cornish bard Mike O'Connor and Barbara Griggs performing Mike's Cornish musical tale of the lost Celtic Lands, Return to Lyonesse. Headlining Friday night is the high energy, all dancing, fiddle playing banjo maestro, Stompin' Dave Allen.
