Bodmin Town 3 Ashington 2
Bodmin are through to the last 16 of the FA Carlsberg Vase for the first time in their history after seeing off Northern League side Ashington in a pulsating fourth round tie at Priory Park.
Darren Gilbert's Carlsberg South West Peninsula League champions will be at home again in round five, against Gornal Athletic or Wisbech Town on Saturday February 9.
Gornal (Midland Alliance League) and Wisbech (Thurlow Nunn League) are due to play their fourth round tie next Saturday after a second postponement today.
Bodmin were deserved winners over their Northumberland opposition on a heavy pitch. Glynn Hobbs gave them the perfect start with a ninth minute lead after a good move between Steve Colwell and Chris Luxton.
Gradually, though, Ashington began to dominate possession and they were level on the hour with a Glen Taylor penalty after Olly Brokenshire was adjudged to have raised his boot high on Andrew Johnson.
But it took Bodmin only four minutes to restore their advantage as Luxton pounced on a fumble by Ashington keeper Karl Dryden to send the ball across the face of goal.
Colwell's first shot was brilliantly saved by Dryden but the ball rebounded to Colwell, who made no mistake with his second attempt.
Luxton had been hurt in the build-up to the goal and was replaced by Adam Carter who, according to manager Darren Gilbert, had been upset at being left out of the starting line-up.
Carter seemed to have a point to prove as he rattled the bar with a left foot volley in the 79th minute and was then denied by a brilliant save on his line by Dryden a minute later.
But it was third time lucky for the big striker in the 86th minute as he raced onto a superb Sam Matthews pass and took his time before drilling a low shot past Dryden to make it 3-1 to spark wild celebrations in the crowd.
There was still time for Ashington to pull a goal back through Matt Grieve two minutes into time added on but it was too little too late.
