First Great Western contract extended - no change for Cornwall Rail Services

Plans for a bidding competition for the franchise to run Great Western rail services into Cornwall have been put off.
First Great Western has had its contract to run the service extended until October and negotiations will now start on a new two-year contract with the company.
A new Great Western rail franchise had been put out to tender last summer, but was suspended in October following the cancellation of the West Coast Main Line franchise.
Sarah Newton, MP for Truro and Falmouth, welcomed the news.
She said: "The extension of the current Great Western franchise is welcome news, that will safeguard rail service levels in the South West and enable improvements that will make a real difference to passengers and businesses. "I have this morning spoken to First bosses to discuss how we can ensure this potential is delivered. I am pleased to have secured a commitment from the Secrs
