A woman was plucked from the sea 400 metres from Falmouth's shoreline in the early hours of Friday morning in a situation which could have had a 'much more tragic outcome'. The woman, who had apparently decided to attempt to swim towards the docks just after midnight, became fatigued in the cold waters and people on the shore alerted the emergency services. Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat, the Falmouth Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team and Ambulance and Police Units all attended the scene in Falmouth Inner Harbour. The casualty was located struggling to stay afloat 400m from shore at 12.45am suffering from hypothermia. The RNLI warned the incident would have had a 'much more tragic outcome' without the prompt action of the lifeboat crew.
