A Lostwithiel business owner will be hoping there's cause for celebration in April having been chosen as a finalist in the 'Young Guns in the Antiques Trade Awards 2013'.Alys Dobbie, 29, co-owns Nanadobbie's with her father Mike. They opened the Lostwithiel shop in 2005 before Alys went on to gain a first class honours degree in furniture restoration and subsequently open further shops in Stoke Newington and Brighton. In 2012 Nanadobbie Brighton was voted the UK's 'Top Vintage Shop' by BBC Homes and Antiques magazine. She aquired a taste for antiques at a young age when she began collecting vintage items from the 60's and 70's. This passion then took her to  begin trading at London's, Spitalfields Market. The 'Young Guns' awards are open to anyone under 39 working in the antiques trade who has successfully encouraged a younger audience to pay an interest in antiques shops, fairs and auction houses.
A panel of expert judges will be looking  for the most endearing, passionate story of how and why the entrant started their business, or went into the industry professionally. The awards also seek out young traders who actively promote the green credentials of antiques and their value in comparison to high street purchases.Alys said: "I can't really believe I've been selected, especially after winning best vintage shop last year."It means a lot to be nominated for such a prestigious award, especially with the big companies invloved."The overall winner of the 2013 'Young Guns Awards' will be announced at the UK's prestigious Battersea Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair on April 25.
