CORNWALL and North Yorkshire fire services could help each other in the future when dealing with major incidents at busy times.
A report going before North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority has suggested the two organisations could share control rooms to increase resilience, effectiveness and efficiency of the control function in each authority.
Cornwall already has a similar arrangement in place with Dorset in case of extreme circumstances.
According to the report officers of both services have drafted an outline business case for approval.
It sets out a case for a geographically remote collaborative venture based on networking the two control rooms, which will have the same mobilising system to increase capacity and cope better with localised weather events that may cover both regions.
This is possible because Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service is relocating its fire control room from Truro to Tolvaddon in Pool which allows it to "refresh" its existing model. The new function would be on the same technical platform as North Yorkshire's mobilising system.
If agreed the project would be taken forward jointly by officers of both services.
