A former Sunday school teacher who has only ever left Cornwall once has turned 100.
Minnie Rogers was greeted with a telegram from the Queen on February 3 and spent the big day with friends and family at Chypons Residential Care Home in Newlyn.
The centenarian was born in Lamorna but lived in Cros-an-wra and St Buryan for many years with her late husband, Tom, and later her stepson Billy and his wife Lena.
The grandmother of six and stepmother of three was for many years a caretaker at Cros-an-Wra Chapel and was also a Sunday school teacher.
The former St Buryan school pupil had a variety of jobs including as a cleaner and on local farms.
Her stepdaughter-in-law, Lena, said that she had only ever left Cornwall on one occasion – for her honeymoon in Devon.
She said: "On the big day we made her a nice cake and had a party. She was very plain-living, hardworking with a very strong faith."
