A former Liberal Democrat councillor who represented his party for ten years on Cornwall County Council has joined Mebyon Kernow.
Brian Higman, who is now a member of Roche Parish Council, said he had become "disillusioned" with Nick Clegg's party, adding that by being part of the nationalist group he could "better serve his community". Mr Higman, who also served for many years on Restormel Borough Council and was borough mayor in 1994, said he had become "fed up with national politics".
He said: "Now is the time to ensure that politics in Cornwall is actually for the good of Cornwall. That is why I am pleased to be joining and supporting Mebyon Kernow."
Another prominent parish councillor pinning his colours to the MK banner this week is businessman Matt Facey, who serves as vice-chairman of Mevagissey Parish Council.
MK leader Dick Cole said: "I am absolutely delighted that Brian and Matt have chosen to join Mebyon Kernow. They are respected champions for their respective communities and I hope that many more people will follow their lead and help us build a stronger team to push for a better deal for Cornwall."
