Afternoon everyone, I hope you have been keeping well through the past couple of weeks. I have been very busy putting together plans for a potential new gym in the Redruth/Camborne area, please follow myfacebook.com/sportstrainingacademy"> facebook page to keep up to date on developments on this very exciting prospect.
I have been approached by Maximuscle to run a local verson of their national campaign the "protein project" The first step will be finding 3 candidates, they will receive nutritional programing from myself, free gym membership for 12 weeks along with support from the national supplement company Maximuscle! I will announce more on this as the time approaches.
Lots of people talk to me about calories and how many they should eat. My opinion is that it is not so much how many or how few calories we eat more so of where we get them from. I think we are all guilty of picking up a product and looking straight at the "calorie content" and if it looks to high we put it straight back. Why do we feel the need to do this? I tell you why, every program we watch and every article we read tells us we should eat less calories to lose weight and eat more to gain it.
But can you actually tell me what is a good calorie and a bad calorie? Did you even know there was a difference?
Firstly lets just clear up what a calorie is :
"A calorie is a measure of energy" but its how it's comprised that is important.
If we look at the obvious, a fast food meal containing 500 calories would be classed as 500 empty calories. As opposed to a meal containing fresh meat and veg would be classed as "good calories". Please feel free to look at my previousblogs to see why we should avoid "low fat" and "low sugar" foods.
I will always tell my clients the same, look at what your eating! If it has a shelf life of months then it is bound to be full chemicals and other rubbish. It does not take an educated person to see that in the last 40 years we have lived on "low fat" and "high carb" foods and the rate of heart disease and cancers has increased dramatically.
My advice is don't be afraid of calories, just understand what is a good and bad calorie. To keep healthy do it one step at a time, one way would be to do most if not all of your shopping to the outside of the supermarket as this is where the fresh food is generally kept and the more processed foods closer to the middle.
If you wish to have any more advice on nutrition and training please feel free to email me, or leave a comment on this blog.
Just before I sign off this blog could I please ask you to take a look at a great masseuse in Newquay. Jade is exceptional in sports massage and has helped me overcome my recent ankle injury. Please follow thisfacebook.com/Massage.Cornwall"> LINK.
Thank you for reading my blog and as always I like to hear your feedback.
