Boy racers using part of Hayle's North Quay as a skid pan risk going out of control and crashing into the water, the harbour master has warned.
Members of the public have contacted the town's police about groups of drivers gathering on North Quay and also at the West Cornwall Shopping Park.
Harbour master Peter Haddock said there was a problem in the newly-refurbished harbour area.
"My main concern is from a safety aspect," he said. "On one end of North Quay there's a new complex for the fishermen.
"There's quite an expanse of concrete there and they're currently using that as a skid pan.
"My concern is that if someone loses control they could go straight off the quay.
"It'as got to the point where the public are phoning up the police and making complaints."
Mr Haddock added that harbour owner ING was also concerned and was working with the Hayle Harbour Authority to look at ways of resolving the problem.
PCSO Fiona Gamble told Hayle councillors at their latest meetings there had been three reported incidents of boy racers gathering in the Marks and Spencer car park.
She urged members of the public to report any similar incidents by calling police on 101.
