A naval flare found on a Mevagissey Beach has been destroyed in a controlled explosion.
The Harbour Master alerted authorities to the metal object after spotting it on Island Beach at around 11am on Sunday.
Naval flares are routinely used during exercises at sea, and occasionally empty canisters float in on the tide.
A Brixham Coastguard spokesman said the phosphorus inside the metal casing could cause burning if it came into contact with a person's skin.
A Royal Navy Bomb Disposal Unit moved the flare to a safer location at Chapel Point in order to destroy it in a controlled explosion at around 2pm.
