A FORMER Camborne benefit cheat has been given a sixteen week curfew after fraudulently claiming housing benefits.
Luke Stevens, aged 37, formerly of Pendarves Street, Tuckingmill, now of Sittingbourne, Kent pleaded guilty to pocketing a total of £8,806.81.
He appeared via a video link from Maidstone Magistrates Court to Truro Magistrates Court on Friday last week and admitted failing to promptly report to Cornwall Council that he and his family had vacated the Pendarves Street address.
He was sentenced to a community order of a sixteen week curfew, which runs five days a week from Thursdays to Mondays between 5pm and 7am.
Stevens was also ordered to pay £300 towards the investigation and legal costs.
The overpaid benefits are being recovered from Stevens by Cornwall Council separately from this Court action.
Cornwall Council said it operates a zero tolerance policy to fraud and corruption. The authority's confidential fraud hotline is 0800 7316125.
