EVER considered jumping off the top of the tower at St Ives Parish Church? Christian Aid is looking for adventurous types to take on the challenge of abseiling down the 85 feet tower in May to raise money to fight global poverty. And the parish priest has already signed up! Rev Andrew Gough, vicar of St Ives Parish Church, said: "I'm nervous but I've agreed to take on the challenge – it's too good an opportunity to miss. "I'm looking forward to the views across our beautiful bay but I'll be glad when my feet reach terra firma! "This is our chance to come together as a community, and help communities in need overseas". The St Ives Abseil invites takes place on Thursday May 16 and Christian Aid are looking for volunteers to take part and raise money for charity. Entrants register for £15 per person and must pledge to raise a minimum of £60. Helen Burgess, events fundraising officer at Christian Aid, said: "The St Ives Abseil promises to be an exciting challenge and a great community event. By taking on this challenge, you will not only be challenging yourself but also the structures which keep people trapped in poverty. By going over the edge, you really will be making a difference. "Over 200 people abseiled for Christian Aid across the UK last year – this is your chance to join them!" To get involved register online at www.christianaid.org.uk/abseil or call 01395 222304.
