WOMEN are being warned not to go out alone after reports of a man harassing and exposing himself to lone females in Falmouth.
One victim told police it "made her skin crawl" after he made lewd comments to her early one morning in the town.
She had been out running just after 8.30am and was heading out of the main town centre when she became aware of him driving a white van.
The police have received another complaint from a woman who was running along the seafront and are investigating a claim the man exposed himself.
Police said they did not believe the women were in "immediate danger" as he had not got out of his vehicle to approach them – but the police believe there may be more victims.
An appeal has been made for anyone who has been approached to come forward.
PC Chris Vincent said: "We are trying to find out if more people are involved."
"Our concern is there may be other incidents where people have thought it's ridiculous and not reported it – not realising it is part of a bigger picture."
The offender could be charged with causing harassment, alarm or distress, but officers have not ruled out other charges if they come to light during investigations.
PC Vincent said: "We have had reports about a man approaching women and making inappropriate and strange comments.
"I believe he is driving around and coming across the women by chance and making comments.
"No one is particularly being singled out or followed continuously. "
PC Vincent added: "We would ask that women protect themselves, for example run in pairs or go at different times when there are more people out and about."
The man is in his late forties to early fifties driving a clean, fairly new white van with no specific marks, described as being similar to a Ford Transit.
PC Andy Hocking added: "He has been heard to make suggestive comments that have unnerved and upset the women."
The reported incidents took place on March 14 and 15, between 8am and 8.30am.
"We are taking this very seriously and would urge anyone who has experienced similar problems to get in touch," added PC Hocking.
Police said they had identified a possible suspect but not arrested or formally questioned anyone.
They did not believe the incidents linked to a stalker – who was never caught – reported in the town 18 months ago.
Anyone with information can call Falmouth police station on 101 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
