A YOUNG woman is recovering in hospital after being plucked from the sea near Newquay harbour by a hero fisherman this morning.
The unnamed skipper spotted her in the darkness and raised the alarm as he set out for a day's work at around 4.40am.
He pulled her onto the boat, quickly assisted by an RNLI lifeboat crew, before helping her to a waiting ambulance.
Dave Bulley, of the Newquay coastguards' cliff rescue team, said he had received the call but the woman was safely inside the ambulance when he arrived at the scene.
He said: "She's a very lucky woman. It was fortunate the fishing boat was off out that early in the morning or this could have been a very different story."
Geoff Brown, a local skipper and RNLI member, added: "He did a tremendous job in almost pitch black conditions. If he hadn't been there, the consequences don't bear thinking about. She's a very lucky young lady."
