Truro City boss Lee Hodges will be seeking a response at Havant & Waterlooville following the Cornish side's 3-0 home defeat by runaway Blue Square Bet South leaders Welling United.

Such are Hodges' standards that despite his side being cast adrift at the basement, the White Tigers player-manager is calling on his players to bounce back from a "topsy-turvy" run of form.

Hodges said: "We got the result at Sutton and then you are looking for us to kick on.

"I know it was Welling and they are top but there is enough about us, as we have proved many times already this season, to cause an upset.

"Some days no matter how well you prepare it just doesn't happen. Last Saturday seems to be one of those days. Jordan Copp came in and played really well on his debut, Jake Ash was in for me at sweeper and you know you are always going to get 100% from Ashy and Luke Payne could not have done much more in goal.

"But we didn't get enough supply up to the front two and because of that we suffered."

Hodges added: "We have been a bit topsy-turvy and it would be good to put that right before the end of the season.

"Havant have been on a good run recently after a slow start to the season. They got Lee Bradbury in as manager and then Shaun Gale – who used to be their boss – has gone back as Bradbury's assistant and it's a good combination. Since those two have come in they have been on a fantastic run."

Ninth placed Havant have won their last four home games thanks to West Leigh Park wins over Sutton (3-0), Bath City (2-1), Billericay (5-0) and most recently Maidenhead United (2-1). Hawks top scorer Ollie Palmer has netted six times in the first three of those four recent home wins, including a hat-trick against Billericay to take his tally to 21 for the term.

Hodges will play a waiting game before selecting a side this morning.

"We plan to train, have a loosen-up and see how everyone is on the eve of the game and then I will know where we are. It's a Friday game so everything has come forward 24 hours but we won't alter our training schedule as such."

City host Basingstoke on Monday but nothing could be further from Hodges' mind: "All I am thinking about is Havant and coming away with points, and a performance. We will be having a right good go at getting both."

Meanwhile, former Wellington manager Jamie Ward is set to take charge of his first match as Tiverton Town boss tomorrow against Merthyr Town in the Southern League.
