Skills Minister Matthew Hancock donned an apron for a cookery lesson as he visited apprentices at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen Cornwall.
Mr Hancock dropped in to the kitchens at the restaurant at Watergate Bay, near Newquay, to help mark the achievements of 12 trainee chefs who are nearing the end of their apprenticeships. Demonstrating what they have learnt over the last 16 months, apprentices Tom Ryder and Angela Hewitt gave the minister a lesson in cookery.
The minister, who also visited Cornwall College and City College Plymouth on his Westcountry tour, was shown how to make the perfect pasta, followed by crafting them into the intricate tortellini which are served in the restaurant.
"It was great to see the Fifteen apprentices showing their expertise in the kitchen and even getting to sample some of their fantastic creations," Mr Hancock said. "The Fifteen programme shows how apprenticeships can transform people's lives, giving them the skills they need to reach their potential."
