Stithians 7 Veor 19
Tribute Cornwall One champions Veor claimed the Cornwall Clubs' Cup with a solid performance against league runners-up Stithians at Penryn's Memorial Ground.
Stithians were left to reflect on a match in which they dominated long periods of territory and possession but could only muster a solitary try midway through the second half, whilst Veor recovered from a rocky third quarter to win with something to spare.
Stithians full-back Andrew Creeden missed an early penalty in what rapidly became a scrappy error strewn contest, before Veor claimed the opening try of the game just before the half hour with their first attack of the game.
Dan Arthur's penalty fell short of the target but the Stithians defence failed to clear their lines and wing Bevin Stone charged down the clearance kick before scoring under the posts. Arthur converted.
Nathan Strick missed an second half penalty for Stithians but they were finally rewarded when Mike Creeden gathered his own chip ahead inside the Veor 22 and sprinted clear to score. Strick converted to level the scores but no sooner had they levelled the game than Stithians faded from it again.
Arthur capped a fine performance for Veor with a well taken opportunist try in the 68th minute and Liam Mankee completed the scoring five minutes later from a strong driving maul. In stoppage time Stithians wing Nathan Thomas was shown a straight red card for a butt as frustrations boiled over.
