A woman from Bodmin will celebrate her 40th birthday a little differently this year, by shaving her head for charity.
Rachel Fisher, a Complementary Health Therapist, will shave her head at the Cornwall Hospice Care Shop on Lemon Quay in Truro on Saturday 13 April at 11am.
The shave is part of a bigger challenge for Rachel, who will climb Mount Kilimanjaro for Cornwall Hospice Care in September 2014. Money raised from the head shave will go towards her fundraising target.
Rachel said: "I wanted to celebrate my 40th birthday by doing something dramatic and helping a local charity at the same time. People have told me I am crazy but I think it should be a bit of a giggle.
"After completing the trek to Everest Base Camp last year, I wanted to challenge myself again, so decided to take on the Kilimanjaro trek. Cornwall Hospice care has been very supportive of my challenge, and one of the team has even offered to hold the scissors. Matt Way from Afina Hairdressers in Truro has kindly offered to do the head shave for me so I am very grateful to him."
Amy Barnie, Charity Challenge Officer at Cornwall Hospice Care said: "We are so grateful to Rachel for her continued support, she raised more than £3,000 for us when she took part in the Everest Base Camp trek last year and we are really happy to have her back in the team for the Kilimanjaro Challenge, and fundraising in such a daring way.
"We rely heavily on donations from the public to reach our £6.8 million annual running costs and the money Rachel raises will help us continue providing specialist care to adults in Cornwall with life limiting illnesses"
