A long-awaited meeting between a headteacher on the Isles of Scilly who was suspended and then resigned, and auditors investigating his tenure of the job will take place today.

Bryce Wilby stood down from the top post at the Five Islands School earlier this year amid allegations of financial irregularities.

An audit of the school's finances carried out by Cornwall Council on behalf of the island authority initially wrapped up without interviewing Mr Wilby, who now lives outside the Westcountry. However, it was reopened and today the former head teacher and his union representative will meet auditors at Cornwall Council offices in Wadebridge.

Mr Wilby has always insisted he has done nothing wrong and recently launched legal action against the Isles of Scilly Council after claiming he was effectively sacked.

He said that apparent confusion over his leaving date and notice period led to him not being paid this month.

Mr Wilby was suspended in May and subsequently resigned from his post.

An audit investigation was launched, as well as a separate independent enquiry into his leadership, after it emerged that the majority of staff had signed a vote of no confidence in Mr Wilby.

The move has split the normally peaceful community on the Scillies amid allegations that action taken against Mr Wilby was motivated by council chiefs to stop him taking the school to academy status and outside local authority control.
