A woman from Truro has received a 12 month Community Order of 50 hours unpaid work after pleading guilty to housing tax and benefit fraud totalling £4,463.15.
25-year-old Katie-Marie Basher of Burley Close, Truro pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates Court on Friday 5 April to two counts of benefit fraud after failing to promptly report to Cornwall Council that she had commenced paid employment and two counts of benefit fraud of failing to promptly report to Cornwall Council that her partner had commenced paid employment and was in receipt of increased earnings.
After hearing the facts of the case, the Bench as stated, sentenced Miss Basher to a 12 month Community Order of 50 hours unpaid work.
Miss Basher was also ordered to pay £250 towards the investigation and legal costs.
The overpaid benefits are being recovered from Miss Basher by Cornwall Council separately from this Court action.
