A MAN has been arrested following an alleged attack in which a 53-year-old man had his head slammed against a shop window in Market Place, Penzance on Saturday night.
The victim, from Penzance, was punched to the ground in the assault, described by police as an "unprovoked attack" and needed hospital treatement for cuts and bruises to his face. Police said the suspect first punched a shop door and was then verbally abusive to an unknown woman before attacking the victim by punching him several times in the head and knocking him to the ground twice and then ramming his head into a shop window several times. A good Samaritan who tried to assist the victim was allegedly pushed out of the way by the suspect following the incident at around 11.30pm. A police spokesman said: "This was an unprovoked attack that left the victim with an inch and a half cut to his right eyebrow, a broken tooth, bruising and swelling to both eyes and a cut tongue." The suspect was restrained by members of the public until police arrived. A 27-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and later released on bail until 8 May. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact DC 5693 Hearn at Penzance Police Station on 101, quoting crime reference AP/13/812.
