A 67-year-old homeless man from Truro has reached his first landmark as he treks 1,100 miles from John O'Groats, in Scotland, to Cornwall.
Bryan Pesce emailed West Briton to say he arrived at Loch Ness on Sunday after setting out from John O'Groats on Good Friday, travelling around 160 miles on foot.
Mr Pesce is walking the mammoth distance to raise funds for Children's Hospice South West and so far he has raised £1,290.
He used his pensioner's bus pass to get to John O'Groats and is now walking back to Cornwall, pitching a tent nightly.
In his email he said: "There was a lot of snow when I camped down at Munlochy (near Inverness) last week. I walked along the main road to reach Drumnadrochit near Loch Ness but I will have to join the Great Glen Way (a long distance walking route) to get to Fort William.
"Everything is going well, locals are all very friendly and helpful, so it is about 160 miles down and about 950 miles to go."
Mr Pesce became homeless after he injured his leg in 2011, lost his job in a Torbay restaurant and had to leave rented accommodation.
