New signing Ben Mercer makes his Cornish Pirates debut on Sunday as they face Welsh Premiership outfit Carmarthen Quins at the Mennaye Field (3pm), writes Dick Straughan.

The former Bath and Plymouth Albion centre gets his chance on the left wing following a reshuffle of the three-quarter line which sees Wes Davies move to full-back and Tom Cheesman come in at outside centre in place of Tom Riley.

Aaron Penberthy gets the nod at fly-half over Kieran Hallett who drops to the bench.

Up front a new look front row sees former Redruth pairing of Peter Joyce and Darren Semmens partner Alan Paver, while Darren Barry is preferred in the second row to Gary Johnson.

Chris Morgan skippers the side in a back-row combination which includes Bath dual-regger Joe Buckle and Laurie McGlone.

Further recent loan signings from Bath, Jamie-John Kilmartin and Rob Coote are set to make their debuts from the replacements' bench.

Cornish Pirates: Davies, Bedford, Cheesman, Fatialofa, Mercer, Penberthy, Kessell; Paver, Semmens, Joyce, Barry, Lyons, Morgan (capt), Buckle, McGlone. Replacements: Andrew, Elloway, Johnson, Burgess, Coote, Kilmartin, Hallett.

Referee: S Harding (RFU).
