POLICE are appealing for witnesses after one teenage girl was sexually assaulted and another escaped a man's advances.
The girls, both aged 15, were sat on a bench on Dockacre Road in Launceston when they were approached by a man, who sat down and started talking to them.
Police said the man then offered his hand to one of the girls; she shook it and he pulled her towards him, kissing her before grabbing her around the back of the neck and touching her inappropriately. The girl managed to then pull away.
He then tried to grab the second girl by the arm but she resisted and the two girls, who are from Launceston, left the scene.
The incident happened around 3.15pm on Thursday April 11.
The suspect is described as in his late 20s, 5ft 3ins tall, of Indian appearance and with short dark hair. He was wearing black trainers, black cotton joggers and a dark coloured hooded top with the colours of the Jamaican flag on it.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police by telephoning 101, quoting crime reference BL/13/346 or 347, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
