A PARISH councillor who has used bright red spray paint to deliver a message about dog-fouling is determined to keep up his campaign despite Cornwall Council washing away his handy work.

Councillor Colin Brown said he will be back on the streets of Tregony "soon" armed with his can of spray paint and specially designed 'clean it up' stencil to deliver his message about dog-fouling.

Two weeks ago Mr Brown and Tregony Parish Council chairman Des Mennear took to the streets to spray the message on pavements around Roseland Crescent that are "prone to dog mess".

But cleaning crews from Cornwall Council washed away the spray paint after receiving a complaint.

Mr Brown said: "It is very frustrating. Government are telling us to take on more responsibility, yet they wash away our message.

"I hope I have more spray paint than they do cleaning fluid.

"I will not stop until the message is heard.

"I did not seek permission from Cornwall Council before going ahead with this campaign, but you would have thought the council would be happy that someone is saving them a job on enforcing people cleaning up dog mess."

Mr Brown added that people living around Roseland Crescent have welcomed the spray paint campaign.

"We held our annual parish meeting, and everyone was on board with the idea. A few of them were dog-owners too."

A spokesman from Cornwall Council said: "The messages on the pavement were removed by the council's street cleaning contractor following a complaint from a member of the public.

"While the council can sympathise and appreciates these actions have been taken with good intentions, the Highways Act makes it an offence to mark the highway without permission from the authority.

"We have not had any contact with the parish council regarding these messages; however, we would be willing to work with the council, as we have in other locations."
