A CAMBORNE bus driver has been recognised for his excellent customer service skills for people with learning disabilities.
Gino Contrino, who has worked for First for 26 years, was given the above and beyond award by People First Quality Checkers charity yesterday afternoon when he finished his shift.
The award recognises the work that he has done to make a positive difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities in Cornwall.
Kate Spenceley, project co-ordinator for the People First Quality Checkers, said: "The purpose of this award is to praise people who are doing a great job so that we can highlight the kind of simple things that drastically change everyday life for people with learning disabilities.
"Our self-advocates have access to a wide variety of local services, organisations and individuals and Gino was someone that they immediately thought of as worthy of extra recognition for his exceptional warmth and consideration.
"For having made such an impression and his outstanding customer service and friendly manner we are delighted to give him this award."
Robbie Lamerton, First Devon & Cornwall's general manager, said this was not the first time that Gino has been recognised for his great customer service.
Back in 2009 he was nominated by 26 separate customers to become First's national finalist at the company's annual superstar employee awards.
He added: "It's brilliant to have his great attitude and nature recognised again in this way, raising awareness of the extra consideration that people with learning disabilities sometimes require. He is very well deserving of this award, and I and all of his colleagues at Camborne are very proud of him."
