A CAMBORNE woman has been spared jail despite fraudulently claiming nearly £13,000 in benefits.
Linda Waterhouse, aged 45, of Park Road received a six month prison sentence suspended for twelve months for falsely claiming housing and council tax benefits.
She pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court on Friday last week to two counts of benefit fraud for dishonestly causing or allowing another person to fail to promptly report to Cornwall Council that she had commenced paid employment.
The overpaid benefits are being recovered from Waterhouse by Cornwall Council separately from this court action.
Cornwall Council said it operates a zero tolerance policy to fraud and corruption. The authority's confidential fraud Freephone hotline is 0800 7316125.
