A CAT had to be cut out of a van engine by fire crews near Newquay this morning after its paw got stuck in a fan belt.
Four-year-old Pigeon had to be cut free by five Newquay firefighters after her paw got entangled in the volkswagen transporter's fanbelt at around 9.27am.
She had fallen asleep inside the engine at her Penvose Farm home, St Mawgan, the night before, and when it was started the following morning, her paw got pulled into the fanbelt.
Crew manager Scott Brown said she was "distressed" and taken straight to the vets by her owner.
He said: "The paw was quite badly trapped. It was quite awkwardly trapped and it was quite awkward to get out.
"Cat went straight to vet. It was distressed."
The crews used small tools to release the cat.
