A FISH and chip shop in Newquay has come up with a novel solution to its waste disposal issues – and now feeds its fishy scraps to penguins in the town's zoo.
For years Rosie Braddon and Simon Evans, of Flounders on East Street, have had to freeze cod leftovers before disposing of them in a skip.
But now they save everything but the precious fillets to be fed to their feathery friends at the resort's top tourist attraction.
Rosie admitted it was partner Simon's idea – and said they only wished they'd thought of it sooner.
She said: "We fillet the cod ourselves to ensure the best quality so we always have lots of leftover scraps. For the past few years we've just been freezing and skipping them but now there's just a weekly collection from the zoo.
"It's great for us and it seems to be going down well with the penguins too!"
