A YOUNG woman had a lucky escape after her car lost control on a Lostwithiel bend and landed in a hedge, just yards from where a young woman died last October when her car collided with a tree.
Every panel of glass on the Peugeot 306 was smashed and trees surrounding the car had "great gouges" in them following the single vehicle crash by Downend garage, on the A390, at 7.30pm last night.
But despite being cut free from her car, the female driver in her early 20s received just a cut to her nose and only other minor injuries. She was taken by land ambulance to the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske in Truro to be checked over by doctors.
The crash was just 10 yards away from where Emma Paige Lancaster, from Looe, died on October 8 last year, when her car left the road and collided with a tree. The road has been branded as a "danger road" in the past, with calls by community leaders for it to be reviewed.
Two fire engines from Lostwithiel and the rescue tender from Bodmin were scrambled to the incident last night, as well as police and ambulance crews. Fire crews used crash rescue equipment to free the woman from her car.
Watch manager at Lostwithiel community fire station, Jonathon Abbiss, said the girl was "very lucky".
He said: "When we got there, the car was fairly messed up. We thought it could be quite nasty.
"But she was talking to us and although she was shook up she had no spinal injuries and she had been wearing her seat belt.
"The car was on its wheels. I think it has spun and into the hedge. She wasn't trapped. The weather was horrendous and it was blowing a gale.
"It was 10ft from where the girl died; that sweeping bend."
