A DRIVER was given a fine for parking on a fake yellow line daubed illegally on her street in Truro.
The lines appeared after a parking feud escalated in residential Agar Road on the edge of the city.
Tanya Blackman was amused when she first saw it, but furious when a parking attendant gave her a ticket.
Miss Blackman, who runs the cleaning company Girl Friday, said that when she previously parked in the space outside the church hall a neighbour placed traffic cones near to her car.
She added: "There were no lines or restrictions and I always made sure I was tight in and then I would come out and find a cone rammed underneath my car. Then one morning I came back and there was this yellow line on the road. It just didn't look real and it was a bit wobbly.
"I saw a traffic warden and asked him and he said it was definitely not real and would be sorted out."
Tyres
Miss Blackman carried on parking in the same spot and another line appeared further up the road.
"I parked on it and got yellow paint on my tyres. Then I got the ticket for parking on April 26 and just went mad."
She said she had e-mailed Cornwall Council on April 21 about the fake lines. She challenged the ticket and this was upheld.
Cornwall Council confirmed to the West Briton the yellow lines were fake, and painting them was a criminal offence under the Highways Act.
Inspector Mark Richards, from Truro police, said they had not been made aware of the incident by the council, as the owner of the road, but the offence could constitute criminal damage.
Another Agar Road resident, who did not want to be named, said parking was a constant problem and there needed to be a residents' permit scheme.
Cornwall Council said the fake lines would be removed as soon as personnel were available.
