Truro's  Sarah-Jane Boyd birdied the par 5 last hole to seal a two-shot victory in the 72-hole English women's amateur championship at Kings Norton Golf Club, in  Worcestershire today.

It was another fabulous result  for the 21-year-old four times Cornwall champion, who last season caused a shock by winning the British strokeplay crown in Belfast.

But Boyd, who at one stage looked on course for a comfortable win was made to fight all the way by England Strokeplay champion Alex Peters (Notts Ladies), who birdied both the 16th and 17th and her putt on 18 came within a whisker of dropping.

But, in the group behind, Boyd, with brother Alex on her bag, was determined not to let the championship slip away.

She holed tricky par putts when it counted,  particularly on the short 14th and the tricky 16th where water is a daunting feature.

And when she got to the 18th she discovered her lead was only one rather that two as had thought so needed a par to win.

She said: "I played it as a three-shot hole, hit my third from 130-yards to 7ft – and holed it! It was amazing. I feel so good, it's so nice to win a second one because it proves the first wasn't a fluke. It's a stamp of authority.

"It's really special to me to win the English, it's a real privilege to win it and I'm over the moon.

"I kind of knew I always had the upper hand. I was never behind and it was a matter of keeping it together and playing the percentages."

Top three finishers: 1  290 Sarah Jane Boyd (Truro) 73 70 72 75; 292 Alex Peters (Notts Ladies) 71 77 73  71; 3 295 Gabriella Cowley (Brocket Hall) 71 73 76 75.
