Carn Brea Leisure Centre, at Pool, has struck up a partnership with The 2nd Chance Project to support teenagers looking for a career within the sports and leisure industry.
The free course, which starts in September will enable 16-19-year-olds to qualify outside the traditional school or college setting.
It will result in up to 20 students gaining a range of sports related qualifications, including Principles and Preparation of Sports Coaching and Multi Skills Coaching.
The full-time, one year course is funded by Weston College and Street Games and as well as qualifications, students will also receive advice and career guidance from experienced sport tutors and professionals.
They will also experience real life sport-based work placements and volunteering opportunities to set them up for a successful career in sport and leisure.
The course will include a variety of coaching workshops, ranging from Equity in Coaching to Safeguarding Children and Young People.
Students will also have the opportunity to complete the Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS) National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.
Natasha Mills, Cornwall manager and tutor for the 2nd Chance Project, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to gain the work related qualifications and experience needed to work within sport and leisure.
"It also provides opportunities into employment. Carn Brea is a community focused Leisure Centre and the facilities provide a great learning environment."
Barry Holding, centre manager of Carn Brea Leisure Centre, said: "It is great news that we have set up a partnership with the 2nd Chance Project.
"We are always looking for new ways to support young members of the community and this course offers an alternative direction for 16-19 year olds to gain employment within this great industry."
Following successful completion of the course, students will have the chance to apply for five paid apprenticeship placements and put themselves forward for any opportunities at Carn Brea.
2nd Chance is holding two open days at Carn Brea. The first is on June 5 at 6.3opm and the second is on July 11 from 1pm-3pm.
